Rheinstrand Speyer

The Rheinstrand is Speyer's beach bar, set at the southern end of the riverside promenade behind the Bademaxx swimming pool. The operator gives its size as more than 1,500 square metres, laid out with deckchairs, hammocks and lounge groups facing the shipping lane. It is a summer operation and weather dependent, opening daily from noon in season. Swimming in the Rhine is dangerous here because of the current, the suction of passing freighters and commercial traffic, and is prohibited along much of the bank, so the adjacent Bademaxx pool is the safe alternative. Half a kilometre upstream, at Leinpfad 1c, the Alter Hammer has been serving since 1919 and is the oldest beer garden in town, open daily from 11am with a full kitchen.
